Harper Bee Travel Page

We got this little newspaper here, the Harper Bee, that comes out five days a week. It provides local news, national headlines, and a forum for Harper people to state their case. Last week the Thursday edition initiated a new feature: The Travel Page. One of the articles is shown below.

Jamie Lee Buttermore and her husband Lelander motored to Red Bluff, Mississippi to see what is termed as Mississippi's Little Grand Canyon. Jamie Lee told this reporter she packed a nice picnic basket with fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, and apple pie. Of course, she brought along sweet tea and had pickles and olives to finish out the feast. The trip there took over an hour so she and her husband spent the time singing hymns and reciting poetry. Once there they staked out a good picnic spot and parked close by so as to save the place. Then they walked around the bluff and took note of the flora and fauna that was offered to their observation. When asked if the trip to Red Bluff would be on their list of recommended excursions, Jamie Lee said, "Sure. We hope to come back in a year or two. I reckon it will still be here." So folks, get out your planners and jot down Red Bluff for a future site of exploration.

As you can see things go slower around here. I think it gives people time to enjoy the simpler things of life.

Tales of Harper, short stories and poems about the fictional town of Harper, Mississippi is available on Amazon Kindle
