College Station, Texas

Like I was saying me and Dorothy spent the night in College Station and got up the next morning for a visit to the George H. W. Bush Library. It is just off the campus (or maybe on the edge) of Texas A & M University, right across from the football stadium. This library was the fourth one we have seen (including Jimmy Carter in Atlanta) and in our opinion was the best. We spent almost three hours there and were both surprised at the time; it seemed a lot shorter. Dorothy said she could have stayed a lot longer but we needed to get on our way back to Dallas for out flight home the next day. One of the things we enjoyed most were the displays of the family life of the Bush family. There were pictures of George H W Bush's mother and father and siblings in the years before he was married. And Barbara Bush's family before she was married was adequately covered in photographs. And of course the family of George and Barbara, including President George Bush in his younger years, was shown. Also video clips of George Sr. on Saturday Night Live, Barbara on Letterman, and the couple trying to keep it together as they produced a comedy sketch for some show provided us with a humorous look into their lives together. Tomorrow I'll talk about the "nightmare" trip to our motel close to the airport in Dallas.
