Sunday After the Wedding

Sunday morning after a great time at a beautiful Texas wedding, Dorothy and I headed to Austin to continue our visits to the presidential libraries. Our next stop was Austin and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library. The road to Austin is a busy one and it's under construction a lot of the way. We were told it serves as a conduit for goods coming up from Mexico so there were many trucks traveling along with us, I reckon on their way back for more goods. We passed through Waco where Baylor University is located. The library in on the University of Texas grounds and you can see the stadium where the Longhorns play football right across from the entrance to the library. The tour was very interesting but brought back painful memories particularly the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. And there was the beginning of the War on Poverty that Johnson started. That's a war that is ongoing and seems to have no end. All and all the museum was very good and the staff was helpful and full of information. After we finished our tour we headed to College Station, Texas for a visit to the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library.

Tales of Harper, short stories and poems about the fictional town of Harper, Mississippi is available on Amazon Kindle
